Las Castañuelas {Lesson 5}

We're up to our 5th lesson for castanets! This will be the last one for a little while, we'll be getting back to some more body work and marcaje so keep an eye out for that.

We are keep with the same rhythm that we learnt last week and add a couple of different layers of difficulty to the braceo.

Las Castañuelas {Lesson 3}

Ok guys, time for lesson 3.  I hope you have been practicing what we have done so far.

I don't know about you but I am really feeling how much I have worked my forearms after I have finished practicing. Its a good excuse to ask one of your friends to give your arms a quick massage - it makes all the difference.

Today we are going to look at the roll sound or as it is called in spanish the carretilla.

Las Castañuelas {Lesson 2}

Welcome to lesson 2 of our introduction to playing castanets.

In this lesson we will be adding in another sound which comes from a movement called 'El Posticeo'. The onomatopoeic sound for this movement is 'chi'.

'Chi' is the sound made when to hit both castanets against each other.

In the video below José demonstrates an exercise with the posticeo.
