Llamada por bulerias [Manuel Reyes]
Today Manuel Reyes is going to teach you a llamada por bulerias. It is taken from a new danza estudio Flamenco Bites class that will be live this coming Saturday.
We hope you enjoy learning this llamada!
Let’s dive in.
Below you’ll find a graphic notating what the feet are doing.
You may be be perfectly fine using only the video to learn the llamada but if you also like to see things mapped out, the graphic below could be helpful.
Key: G = golpe, T = tacón, S = step (this will make sense after you watch the video).
Manuel explains his llamada very well in the video (and even more in the full class) but as I (this is Renae writing) was working on this tutorial this week and went over it many times to make sure I could notate it correctly, I found I needed to be careful and pay attention to all of the tacones (heels) that help to join the whole step together.
Once I had that element cemented in my body (along with the soniquete) I found the upper body came along with more ease.

Once you’ve learnt this llamada if you’d like to learn how to actually use it when you are dancing then consider joining danza estudio Flamenco Bites to study the entire class.
In his class Manuel teaches how to dance ‘por bulerias’ in a clear and easy to understand way and most wonderfully the class is accompanied by Manuel singing various letras so that you can put the steps and your new knowledge into practice.
This is a class that I wish I had when I first started dancing. Once you understand what you are listening to when you hear a verse of bulerias and understand how everything comes together, dancing becomes joyful instead of a scary, fearful experience where you are unsure of what you are suppose to be doing.
In fact, during the class mistakes are made. The students in the class recording are learning everything for the first time, so the mistakes are natural and likely what you may also encounter so Manuel explains how to recover and continue so you can keep dancing.
No matter where you are in the world you have the opportunity to learn from one of the greatest maestros of the art of flamenco.
This class will be available in danza estudio Flamenco Bites from Saturday the 16th of March.
